The Smart Policing Initiative presented a webinar on "Smart Policing Officers" on October 15, 2013 from 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm Eastern Time. Members of the Los Angeles SPI team presented this webinar, facilitated by Dr. Craig Uchida, the Los Angeles SPI research partner and BJA Visiting Fellow. This webinar focused on the roles of police officers and crime analysts as they work together to reduce crime. Using data, information, and technology, officers and analysts work with captains and street officers to identify chronic offenders and chronic locations. Using this intelligence, captains are able to develop strategies and tactics to intervene appropriately. The webinar describes the way in which police officers and analysts use data on a daily and weekly basis, how captains make decisions, and how technology (Palantir and the Omega Dashboard) assists in reducing and solving crime. The presentation includes brief demonstrations of this technology using ‘live’ data and results from the SPI program evaluation.
