The Reno SPI Team operates a very active and multifaceted approach to reducing problems with prescription drug abuse. Their strategy has at least four major prongs - public education through schools and parents, enhanced enforcement through training and monitoring, outreach to the medical community (pharmacists and physicians), and strengthening and expansion of an existing collaborative network.
This BJA-funded document summarizes the issues and related effects contributing to the increasing number of abandoned and vacant homes, provides detailed case studies of how five jurisdictions successfully implemented strategies to mitigate related crime issues, and offers best practice recommendations to other jurisdictions looking to curtail abandoned and vacant home issues in their own jurisdictions.
